Energy Wizard Controller Setup - General - Control Period
Start the Controller Setup program, click on the main "General" tab and then
on the minor "Control Period" tab.
A Control Period is signalled when the energy supplier is experiencing a high energy
consumption.
On some energy contracts the energy consumed during a control period is charged at a
very high rate whilst the energy consumed outside the control period is charged at a lower
rate.
Therefore, for this type of contract it is often desired to shed all available loads
during a Control Period.
A Control Period is either signalled by a ripple relay which is activated by the energy
supplier or is during an agreed upon schedule.
For the Controller to determine if it is a control period it gets the signal from a
line on the MicroScan Recorder.
The Control Period can be set up in two different ways so that during a Control Period
either:
- All available loads are shed.
- or The Target is replaced with a Control Period Target.
The first form shows the setup for 1. All available loads are shed.
To setup option 1. All available loads are shed.
- Select Control Period Type: Set this option to "Shed all CP loads"
- Select Control Period Input: Select the MicroScan input that has the Control Period
signal
- Release Loads Slowly: For loads that have been shed by a Control Period, when the
Control Period is over we can choose to either unshed them all at once by setting NO, or
to unshed them slowly by setting YES.
- Sense of Inputs: N/O means 1 = Control Period is ON, N/C = Control Period is OFF.
The second form shows 2. The Target is replaced with a Control Period Target.
To Setup 2. The Target is replaced with a Control Period Target.
- Select Control Period Type: Set this option to "Change to CP Target"
- Select Control Period Input: Select the MicroScan input that has the Control Period
signal
- Select Warning Period Input: Select the MicroScan input that has the Warning Period
signal. The Warning Period signal is used to compensate for a slow response time from a
plant to shed load. It does this by changing to the Control Period Target as soon as the
Warning Period is signaled but providing it is in the first Part of the Period as
indicated by the "Enter Warning Time" option.
- Enter Warning Time: Select the number of minutes from the start of the Period for which
the Warning Period will be active.
- Enter Control Period Target: Enter the Target required during a Control Period.
