Site Installation Notes

The following information is useful notes we have compiled to aid with the install of a MicroScan system. For more in-depth information, you should always refer to the station install guides supplied with your remote stations, or contact your MicroScan supplier.

General

Use a 2100-IS comms relays to announce comms failure alarms.
Use station relays and autodialler to advise staff of critical alarms.

Test the computer with powerup restart to check
a) computer logs on after restart with no user logon required.
b) MicroScan starts after restart.
c) computer restarts after power loss (may need a BIOS change in power management settings).

Save your system settings to a memory stick for up to date backups using Setup Tools, Backup Job Settings. Keep offsite with original install CD.
Dongle serial numbers and tools backups may be requested in case of software support or supply of new dongle, or for supplying quotes for system expansion. The serial number is recorded on both the dongle and CD.
Keep dongle plugged into computer at all times. Attach to computers rear USB ports to prevent inadvertent removal.
If you have problems with MicroScan storing files, turn off Anti Virus scanning of the microscan install folder.
Make regular backups of data to memory stick or a File Server for data security.

Alarms

Use 2100-A16 relay outputs or 2100-D relay outputs to announce alarms.
Test all alarms.
Alarm Time delay setting in MicroScan is entered in seconds.
If an autodialler is used, connect it both to A16 alarm relays and 2100-IS comms fail alarm.

Station Installation

Install stations in their own cabinet, away from contactors and VSD equipment.
Read and keep station install manuals.
Stations in M Power Supply mode should not be operated  below 23 vDC (use the L power supply version).
See notes below for details on 2100-A16 and 2100-M installation.

General Cabling instructions

Use low capactance data cable for all comms connections.
If required, use a high value terminating resistor (1K) at the end of data loops only. Do not install terminator in the middle of a data loop.
Always use a 1K terminating resistor with 2300-XX stations.
Check cables are seated properly in terminals (give a gentle tug with long nose pliers to check cable is secure). Do not clamp on plastic covering of cable.

RS 485 Comms Cabling (single pair)

DPF2702 or similar low capacitance data cable. One twisted pair and drain wire, foil screened.
Connect using terminals 70, 71 and 74. Comms links in station are set to L3 and L4.

RS 422 Comms Cabling (two pair)

DPF4702 or similar low capacitance data cable. Two twisted pair and drain wire, foil screened.
Suggested colours:
Terminal 70 orange
Terminal 71 orange/ orange white
Terminal 72 blue
Terminal 73 blue/blue white
Terminal 74 Drain wire not earthed.
Comms links in station are set to L1 and L2.

2100-A16 to 2100-M multiplexer cable

DPF6702 or similar low capacitance data cable. Three twisted pair and drain wire, foil screened
Used for connecting long runs between 2100-A16 and 2100-MR or 2100-MI.
Drain wire earthed at earth bus in enclosure where 2100-A16 is situated at one end only.
Do not run cable next to VSD drives or VSD controllers.

RTD Cables

DMS-4702 or similar. Four core and drain wire, foil screened.
Suggested colours:
A line = Red
B line = Yellow
B line = Blue
Green not used.
Drain wire earthed at earth bus in enclosure where 2100-M is situated.

RTD Notes

Keep joints and junction boxes to an absolute minimum.
RTDs should not have any earths on circuit or probes.
Do not use plugs for roving fruit probes inside a coolstore.
All joints to be hard wired.

-10 Deg = 96 Ohms
0 Deg C = 100 Ohms
10 Deg C = 103.9 Ohms

Earthing

All screened cables drain wires should be connected to the earth bus but only at one end.
Comms cable RS485/RS422 terminal 74 is the drain wire, this should not be earthed at any point. See Outstation Layout page in the 2100-A16 Installation Guide.
RTD screened cables should be earthed at one end only, at the earth bus.

2100-A16 Installation Notes

If multiplexers are used, reserve inputs 1-4 for each unit and insert the adjacent J link.
If an input is 4-20 mA, the correct J link next to the input must be installed as well as changing the station input range.
If a station has 2100-M multiplexers attached, it cannot use retransmission to a PLC.
If a PLC retransmission is used, the same A16 can talk to MicroScan via the comms connection.
Onboard 20V dc supply can be used for digital inputs signals but not powering 4-20 mA Loops.
Use RTD 0-850 Deg C for Psuedo Digital indication.

Mount the 2100-A16 as per the recommendation in the 2100-A16 users manual, including : Do not mount in a cabinet with power control equipment. This includes Variable speed drives, switching relays, high voltage cables etc. and avoid mounting adjacent to equipment with large switch mode power supplies.

2100-M Installation Notes

Calibrate zero and span pots annually.
ABB line colors are red/yellow/blue. For easy identification.
Check RTDs for earths, if any RTD has an earth it will cause trouble in the multiplexer.

EDAC 222 Autodialer Notes

This requires PB12 Power Supply. Wall mount both together. PB12 needs 230VAC power point to keep 12VDC battery charged. EDAC 222 needs permanently live telephone jack to outside line at all times. This facility allows for telephones or FAX machines to be wired downstream of the EDAC 222. They should never be wired upstream of the EDAC 222. Always test alarms, so that autodialler system is known to be working.
