Network Setup |
Network Support Tech Info |
This information is intended to supply support information on the MicroScan Networking.
Active MicroScans will only run on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, due to recent changes in the way netcopy copies files (as of Feb 2006).
Sharing of data
The Networking uses Read / Write access to a common network folder to share data. All Actives and Passives must have read / write access to this folder. Several files are left open on the server to exchange data between the active & passives for sharing of current data.
Copying of data
Netcopy copies the data to the server. On startup netcopy does a scan of the jobs data and updates files to the server if they need to be updated. After this, file change notification is used to copy only those files that have been changed. Any files created or modified by other programs will also be copied by this method. The display of files that have been changed can be seen on the Netcopy Update List, and when they have been copied they appear in the Copy List. Files in sub folders of the data folder will also be included, and the sub folder path will be created on the server as required.
Storage of data
Each active stores setups to network folder\jobname\setup, data to network folder\jobname\data and backups are stored to network folder\jobname\backup. Actives keep their own setups and data on their own machine. Then setups are copied from the Active to the network on program start, and setup changes. Data is copied to the network by netcopy.
Status information
History Information of active, passive starts and stops are stored to network
folder\network status log.csv
Information on Actives and passives currently being used are stored in network
folder\network status (binary file). This file is used by the passives to find
how many actives are used, and their names etc.
Diagnostic Information
For Netcopy, this is netcopy diag.txt and netcopy diag X.txt (X=1,2,3).
For Networking, this is network diag.txt and network diag X.txt (X=1,2,3).
These files are included in a jobs setup backup if diagnostic files are turned
on.
Using Multiple Actives
Each Active is registered with its own unlock code.
All Actives use the same network folder.
Each active is identified to the passives using the Actives JobName.
When more than one active is used, the Composite Passive Mode can be used to
access data from the selected Actives (Auto or User Defined mode).
Passive Setup JobName
When a Passive is setup as "Network Passive Only", its jobname is
"Network Passive". This name is fixed.
This is the normal setup procedure when setting up a passive on a new computer
and selecting "Network Passive Only" on the Version 5 First Run
selection dialog box.
Version 4 NSERVER/NCLIENT
NSERVER/NCLIENT is not supported in this version of Version 5 networking. This was previously used in the support of live mimic buttons across a network.
Network Winery Controllers
Support of networked winery controllers via the mimic is not supported in this version of Version 5 networking.
