Recommended Alarm Settings

Alarm Advice:

For settings of alarms, and to help implement the best protection for your site, please discuss any setup or hardware and wiring issues with your MicroScan supplier or Intech Instruments.

For Each Line Settings:

Use File Log to record when an alarm occurs
Use Reset on Hour (or what interval is selected) to re flag the alarm if it is still out of limits.

Global Recorder Settings:

Use Auto Relay Update in Alarm Settings:
on Alarm Menu, Alarm Settings (level2 access needed).
To update alarm relays on a regular basis.

Hardware Protection of alarms: (For greatest Security)

Use Remote Station Comms Time Out to indicate loss of power and loss of comms to the station, to an autodialler.
Setup the station for relay 2 as comms fail alarm, and wire in series or parallel (as needed by autodialler) with relay 1.
Use Station Alarm relays as Normally ON.
Comms timeout and alarm relays normally on in Stations Advanced settings, these settings on 2100-XX stations only, not on IN2000-XX stations.
Use Comms Timeout relay on 2100-IS or IN2000-IS to dial an autodialler for computer fail/complete loss of comms.

Operator Monitoring of alarms:

Use Global Notify on Lines alarm settings.
Use Alarm Monitor (Version 5)
Use Alarm Summary Screen (Version 5).
Use Alarm Log to view alarm history.
Use Print, Alarm Setup Report to print a summary of alarm enables, setpoints & delays.

Setup Protection:

Use setup protection and recorder access levels to prevent unathourised/unintended changes to alarm settings.

Outstation faults:

Outstation faults such as flat line recorder graphs or Station Not found warning dialog boxes must always be investigated as these could  indicate potential problems when the software is writing alarm states to the outstation alarm relays.

Testing of alarms:

Test on a regular basis
At the start of a new season.
When new product has been loaded after an idle time.
When any new station hardware has been added or changed.

Computer Startup:

Please ensure that:
1. The computer starts up and logs on to windows.
2. The MicroScan software is set to autostart.
3. No site IT policy messages or password dialogs are displayed on windows startup that prevent windows from starting from a powerdown.
