To prepare your computer for use with MicroScan:

• User Details
  The logged on user must be a power user or better.
  Note: It is not possible for multiple users setup on Windows XP and using the Switch User feature to run multiple copies of Version 5 at the same time to connect to and view data from one outstation.
  
  
• Install Folder
  The software is installed to c:\installdir, this folder and sub folders must be available for read and write access for the users to run MicroScan. If the required folders do not have the correct read/write access, a warning screen will be displayed when Version 5 starts.
  
  
• Hibernation
  Turn off hibernation features.
  See Control Panel, Power Management.
  
  
• Power Management
  Turn off power management features.
  See Control Panel, Power Management.
  
  
• Screen Saver
  Use a simple screen saver. (do not use Open GL screen savers).
  See Display Properties, Screen Saver Tab.
  
  
• Windows Sounds
  The sound scheme may need to be set to "No Sounds" and the alarm beeps turned off.
  This is a known problem with both 16 and 32 bit applications on some Windows 98/Me computers in the Windows sound drivers, and may exist in other windows platforms.

  With this fault, after a period of beeping the computers clock get slower and slower and when the computer is rebooted comes right again.
  
  
• Computer startup
  Check your computer starts and MicroScan starts from a computer power down.
  Some companies have an IT policy that prevents the computer from starting into windows until a passwords is entered. In this case be aware that the MicroScan and hence logging and alarms will not operate after a power down and startup until the passwords have been entered.
  
  
• USB Comm ports
  Attach and install USB com ports (if required).
  If extra COM ports are needed attach the USB port and install the drivers supplied with the unit.
  If the USB COM port is attached to a USB port, and then moved to another USB port, windows will ask to reload drivers and assign a new COM port number to the port, therefore keep the USB COM port attached to the same USB connector.
