Setup - Backup Setups

You use the MicroScan setup backup tool to copy setups from the computer to another location.

Along with the install CD, you need a setup backup to rebuild the MicroScan software on another computer.
Unless otherwise arranged, your MicroScan supplier will not be able to rebuild the MicroScan system without a setup backup from your computer.

This could be done for:

The setup backup should be setup and maintained as part of your business plan, to ensure the security and timeliness of setups so that it can be retained should the need arise.

Manual Backup Setups:

You use Backup Job Settings on the Setup Tools screen to backup your job.

Automatic Backup to a server

The MicroScan setups can be automatically saved to a server when MicroScan setups are changed.
To specify a server location for the automatic backup, click Backup Job Settings, Options and enter a location for the backup.
This will automatically be set if the software is a Network Active.
You can auto backup setups to a server, even if you are not using the network version of MicroScan software.

Floppy Backup of Setups

The Backup should be done after program changes, and be kept up to date. It should be stored in a safe and easily remembered location. Use new floppy disk(s) for each backup and label with the backup date. To ensure the floppy backup is intact, at the time of the backup take the completed backup to another computer, and use My Computer to browse to the floppy and copy the backup file to the local machine. This will ensure the data on the floppy is readable.

A common fault on PCs is that over time, the floppy drive becomes unreliable because of build ups of dust in the drive. It is import to verify the backup by copying the files on the floppy onto another computer to ensure the integrity of data on the floppy disk.

CD Backup using Windows XP built in CD Writer support

Firstly, you must backup to a folder on the local hard disk.
You then use Windows Explorer to copy this file to the CD.
To write the data to the CD, use "Write These Files to CD".

Note: It is not possible to do a backup directly to a CD.

Going back to a previous setup backup:

When using Version 5, you can use Rewind to go back to a previous settings saved by the automatic backup.
