Tag Setup: Type And Address

The Type & Address category is used to specify the location of the tag.

Tag Name

The Tag Name is a 15 character name used to identify the Tag on the Tag Data Base window and when the tags is accessed by Analogue or Digital objects.

Description

The description is a longer name that can be used to store more detailed information.

Tag Type

The Tag Type can be one of the following:

Analogue
Digital
No Scan Analogue
No Scan Digital
Counter
Psuedo Digital
Math Analogue
Math Digital

As the Tag Type is changed, the Category List on the left will change to suit the tags type.

Address

The Address specifies the location to be read, this can be from an outstation or a plc.

Scan Mode

Fast - The tag is scanned according to the Tags Fast scan rate.
Medium - The tag is scanned according to the Tags Medium scan rate.
Slow - The tag is scanned according to the Tags Slow scan rate.
Off/Screen Only - The tag is scanned only when a screen using this tag is being displayed.
Output Only - the tag is not scanned. Its value will only be read in when it is needed to read a value in for a mimic button.

Notes on Scan Mode:

A tag that needs to be recorded or monitored for alarms should be set to Fast, Medium or Slow.
A tag that is only drawn on a mimic screen and does not need to be recorded can be set to Off/Screen Only.
A tag that is used by a button to read and needs to be dynamically updated on the screen should be set to Fast, Medium or Slow.
A tag that is used by a button to read and then write a value only should bet set to Output Only. The Tag Data Base will only ask for its value when a button has been pressed and needs to be drawn on a dialog box for displaying.

The scan rates are set in Mimic Details on the Setup Tools screen or Tag Details on the Setup Tools screen.

Scan Mode Output Only

The Scan Mode Output Only has two additional options as shown below

Auto Update

If checked, the tags value will be written at the interval set by Mimic Details, Output Tag Auto Update.
This is intended to sync the output value with the plc / station in case the station powers down and needs its output refreshing.

Clear on Startup

If checked, the tag value will be cleared to zero and written out on startup.
This is intended to be used on tag outputs that are alarm relay outputs, so that on MicroScan Start the alarm relay output will be turned off to match the alarm relay state in MicroScan (as it starts with all alarm outputs off).
This can be used on any output tag, that needs to be cleared when MicroScan starts.
